Unprecedented Tibetan Protests Worldwide

Pro-Tibetan protests have occurred in record numbers across the world showing the Chinese Authority that they may be able to kill and suppress inside Tibet, but the people of the world are speaking ... Protesters in Boston, Vancouver, Toronto, Calgary, Ottawa, Germany, Italy, Mysore, New Delhi, Chennai, Buffalo, Chile, Vienna, Israel, Denmark, Lithuania, Norway, Chicago, Bangkok, Seoul, New York, Sydney, London, San Francisco, Minnesota, Barcelona, Munich, Belgium, Taiwan, Paris, and even a vigil was held in Beijing. Unprecedented numbers of peace marchers, hunger strikes, vigils and protests in front of Chinese Embassies worldwide is surely not what the Communist Chinese Government had intended when they made the decision to 'crackdown' on Tibetans. One report even states that Tibetan protesters were gunned down in broad daylight in the streets of Lhasa. The Israeli parliament held a discussion about "the Genocide in Tibet".

Maybe the world is asking China to have compassion if they want to have their 'precious' Olympic Games if you read in between the lines. Several top athletes have already threatened to boycott the games and Beijing can't even promise clean air for them! I hope for a quick end to the utter stupidity and arrogance of the Chinese Authority in regards to the complete brutalization of any sense of the term 'human rights' amidst this 'crackdown' on autonomy ...

AS A NOTE FOR THIS FORUM, IN RELEATION TO THE Mp3 vs CD debate going on-
Both of these sets were mixed from CDs, actually real pressed vinyl, and a collection of WAV format virtual files. I was trying out my new WAV purchases from some of the new sites set up for the digital DJ.

YES! this is yet another sound test and trial of mixing formats.

I mixed in the live Terence samples from a rare 10" hard vinyl record of Dreamtime that I found during my last visit to Palenque. I was covering the latest violence in Chiapas for my news coalition, and found a really sweet junk shop with boxes of old vinyl. What a sweet score, and it is the first time in years that I sample scratched from real vinyl. I found four Terence records, and three records with Tim Leary, McKenna, Jones, and some other psy illuminaries.

I will be sample scratching the new stuff tonight so stay tuned.

One set was mixed on with two Pioneer CDJ 100s, a Technics 1200 PRO Limited (only had two vinyl records, soooo hard to find), and a Roland DJ2000 mixer with all recording done on a Roland VS2480CD 24-Track directly from the main output.

One set was mixed using a custom built virtual Mp3 system using Traktor3 and PCDJ REDD based programming, and a customized Roland based virtual MIDI/Digilog interface sound mixer similar to Audio8 that comes with Traktor Scratch.

I also have MIXX PADD Pro added as a time coded outboard deck so I can do the same thing as I could with any other scratching capable hands on CD player. I can get the virtually the same effects as if I were actually using vinyl and scratching.

My virtual mixing program includes many of the same features as Traktor, like the 4 CD decks and the same type of built in mixer. The program that plays the Mp3s is almost identical to Traktor except for the features I have added in like MIDI and VST loop and sample programs.

I also have the Roland 24 track/64 channel mixer built into my main hard drive, so as to get the identical mixing sound without the hassle and risk of taking my studio to the illegals and Places of high risk.

Both mixes were recorded directly from the Roland VS2480 program so that a comparison could be made between the standard setup and the virtual based system. The CDJ set was recorded on the hardware Roland and the other mix was recorded with the Roland virtual software suite on the hard drive.

I will let everyone know which mix is which after people have had plenty of time to listen to them. I don’t want to bias anyone’s opinion ahead of time, so we will have a blind test to see if people can really tell the difference in the quality of CDs compared to Mp3s.

Vaporvent is a creative entity composed of artists that produce, create and reflect on the world around them.
